Peak in the investments in Special Economic Zones

In the first 6 months of 2014 Special Economic Zones in Poland have issued more permits to operate in SEZ than ever before in any other whole year. 2013 was also a peak year – the total number of issued permits was the highest in past 10 years.

In first half of 2014 the number of issued permits reached 438 which is a 70% increase compared to the previous year. Companies declared investment expenditure exceeding PLN 21.5 billion which is a 300% increase compared to PLN 7.3 billion in the previous year, and creating 20,000 new jobs which is a 250% increase compared to 8,200 new jobs declared in 2013.

One of the factors affecting a significant rise of investments in the SEZs are new guidelines of the European Union that decrease the intensity of permitted regional state aid. As we informed previously, the companies could benefit from the higher incentives till 1 July 2014, after which the intensity of the public regional aid became lower in most voivodeships.
